Your New Business Trip Companion: A Card Scanner!

051309_tf_bizcardscanner.jpgIf you're the kind of guy who thinks business cards are silly and would rather just trade info with a connection by typing on your Blackberrys, you might also be the kind of guy who has a small, lid-less box in his top left desk drawer filled with a pile of the business cards of friends and colleagues that you haven't done a damn thing with...

051409_tf_worldcardmac.jpgWhen you're at a networking event or on a business trip, it's much easier to tuck those contact cards into your jacket pocket or laptop bag than to take the time to transcribe all the info.

This small gadget, the World Card Ultra, "reads" all the info from the business card you slide inside and transcribes it so you can forever have all that info digitally. The contact info can then be exported or synced to Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, Palm, Pocket PC, ACT!, Goldmine, Salesforce, Windows Mobile devices and smart phones.

It's a bit pricey at $179.95 ($199.95 for the Mac version, which comes in a white/orange combo instead of the black/orange), but a worthy price for such a useful gadget. It's powered only by USB, so it's perfect to take along with your laptop on those conference trips.

And if your travels take you internationally, you might like that the World Card Ultra recognizes English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Finnish and Danish.

My Sprint HTC Touch Pro allows me to take a picture of the business card and enters all of the info into my contacts automagically. The program is called WorldCard Mobile and comes on the phone.
