The Tetris Machine: Finally Tetris in Real Life

030909_rg_realtetris_01.jpgI can't remember the amount of hours that I played Tetris on the Gameboy, the original green-lit one. I could never really get past level 13 or 14. At one point, it was just raining Tetris blocks. I think that this game probably marked a whole generation. I've never really found a really good puzzler and I've kind of grown out of them. Nowadays, when I think of old-school gaming, I think of Geometry Wars. The game is merciless. Back to Tetris. Finally, someone has brought Tetris to life. Does it play good?

030909_rg_realtetris_02.jpgThis is a game/art piece that was created thanks to the collaboration of UK mixed-media artist Chrissie MacDonald and photographer Dominic Lee. It envisions what Tetris might look like in some kind of 3D way. I find it hard to exactly see what could happen with the physical blocks after they hare lined up. Since they are real, they can't disappear. However, since this is a concept of what Tetris could look like in a 3D fashion, I guess it works.

Come to think of it, Tetris makes mes think of LEGOs. That's another game that involved putting blocks together. Maybe we could say that LEGO is the real like Tetris. Personally, I wouldn't mind having this sculpture on my desk. It makes you think and puzzlers are great to make your mind relax and work at the same time. [via Technabob]
