Turn Car Trips Into Your Own Custom Arcade Game

100808_tf_carcade.jpgCarcade is a concept created by three students at Berlin University of the Arts for an in-car videogame which captures the passing landscape, like trees and buildings, and creates a game stage based on it. But passengers aren't the only ones playing. If the driver accelerates, we can see that the game gets harder. If the car comes to a stop, a different game situation evolves. As you can imagine, the game is nothing too involved: It's essentially a player maneuvering a spaceship and collecting points while trying to avoid crashing into oncoming enemies. Demo video after the jump...

The students developed a small game concept and a real functional prototype, which has already been through a successful test drive, made up of a webcam connected to a laptop running camera tracking software which recognized the horizon and objects in the environment.
