Several months ago, we showed you Olympus' Micro Four Thirds Camera. It was a modern digital picture snapper with the stylings of an SLR from the 1970s. At the time, we didn't have any price or specifications and it hadn't even been released yet. Guess what? We still don't know the deets, but we know it'll be out this summer, thanks to EnGadget. But if you just can't wait—or you're after a point-and-shoot with a less expensive price point—we'd like to introduce you to Vivitar's ViviCam 8027...
Spotted on GeekSugar, the ViviCam 8027 has a 8.1 megapixel resolution, a 2.4″ lcd screen, 3X optical zoom, antishake technology, a movie mode and red eye reduction. It features a leather wrap-around just like Olympus' version, but it comes in your choice of burnt red, mustard or black.
Ok, so we still don't know a price or release date for this one, but since Vivitar is known for making affordable cameras and they've already provided a spec sheet on their Web site (Olympus still has only given us a press release about developing interchangeable-lens technology), we figure that "less expensive" and "getting to a store near you sooner" will be factors in this decision.
Unfortunately, something about this screams "cheap." I want to like it, but I just don't.

Nice looking retro look. However, the retro look is the only comparison you can make between the olympus and vivitar.
The Olympus will feature the revolutionary Micro Four Thirds chip which basically gives the svelt Olympus DSLR quality AND interchangeable lenses in a small package. Amazing!
Skip this camera and wait for the Olympus for great photos... at least that's what I am doing. Drool.

I too want to like this camera...trying to give it the benefit of the doubt with the terrible press photo that was taken of it (which I think makes it look cheaper than it is). We'll see. I'm still looking forward to Olympus this summer.
